1995 WISCONSIN ACT 466
An Act to create 943.014 of the statutes; relating to: demolition of historic buildings and providing a penalty.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:
466,1 Section 1 . 943.014 of the statutes is created to read:
943.014 Demolition of historic building without authorization. (1) In this section, “historic building" means any building or structure that is listed on, or any building or structure within and contributing to a historic district that is listed on, the national register of historic places in Wisconsin or the state register of historic places or any building or structure that is included on a list of historic places designated by a city, village, town or county.
(2) Whoever intentionally demolishes a historic building without a permit issued by a city, village, town or county or without an order issued under s. 66.05 shall be fined an amount equal to 2 times the fair market value of the historic building and the land upon which the building is located immediately prior to demolition and may be imprisoned for not more than 9 months.
(3) Subsection (2) does not apply to any person if he or she acts as part of a state agency action and the state agency has complied with ss. 44.39 to 44.42 regarding the action.
