1997 WISCONSIN ACT 163
An Act to renumber 38.24 (5) (a) 1.; to renumber and amend 36.27 (3m) (b) and 38.24 (5) (b); and to create 36.27 (3m) (b) 2., 38.24 (5) (a) 1g. and 38.24 (5) (b) 2. of the statutes; relating to: exempting certain resident students from tuition at the University of Wisconsin System and at the technical college system.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do enact as follows:
163,1 Section 1 . 36.27 (3m) (b) of the statutes is renumbered 36.27 (3m) (b) (intro.) and amended to read:
36.27 (3m) (b) (intro.) The board shall grant full remission of fees to any resident undergraduate student who is enrolled in a bachelor's degree program and who is the any of the following:
1. The child of a correctional officer, fire fighter or law enforcement officer who was killed in the line of duty in this state. The student must be the child of a correctional officer, fire fighter or law enforcement officer who was so killed when the child was under the age of 21 or before the child was born.
163,2 Section 2 . 36.27 (3m) (b) 2. of the statutes is created to read:
36.27 (3m) (b) 2. The surviving spouse of a correctional officer, fire fighter or law enforcement officer who was killed in the line of duty in this state.
163,3 Section 3 . 38.24 (5) (a) 1. of the statutes is renumbered 38.27 (5) (a) 1m.
163,4 Section 4 . 38.24 (5) (a) 1g. of the statutes is created to read:
38.24 (5) (a) 1g. “Correctional officer" has the meaning give in s. 102.475 (8) (a).
163,5 Section 5 . 38.24 (5) (b) of the statutes is renumbered 38.24 (5) (b) (intro.) and amended to read:
38.24 (5) (b) (intro.) The district board shall grant full remission of fees under sub. (1m) (a) and (b) to (c) to any resident student who is enrolled in a program leading to an associate of arts degree, a collegiate transfer program or a vocational diploma program and who is the any of the following:
1. The child of a correctional officer, fire fighter or law enforcement officer who was killed in the line of duty in this state. The student must be the child of a correctional officer, fire fighter or law enforcement officer who was so killed when the child was under the age of 21 or before the child was born.
163,6 Section 6 . 38.24 (5) (b) 2. of the statutes is created to read:
38.24 (5) (b) 2. The surviving spouse of a correctional officer, fire fighter or law enforcement officer who was killed in the line of duty in this state.
163,7m Section 7m. Initial applicability.
(1) This act first applies to students enrolled in courses that begin on the effective date of this subsection.
