AB43,1,2 1An Act to amend 44.73 (6) of the statutes; relating to: the educational
2telecommunications access program.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law directs the technology for educational achievement in Wisconsin
board to provide grants, until June 30, 2002, to school districts and private schools
for data lines and video links in existence on October 14, 1997. This bill repeals the
sunset date of June 30, 2002.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB43, s. 1 3Section 1. 44.73 (6) of the statutes is amended to read:
AB43,2,94 44.73 (6) From the appropriation under s. 20.275 (1) (s) or (tm), the board may
5award an annual grant to a school district or private school that had in effect on
6October 14, 1997, a contract for access to a data line or video link, as documented by
7the board. The board shall determine the amount of the grant, which shall be equal

1to the cost incurred by the state to provide telecommunications access to a school
2district or private school under a contract entered into under s. 16.974 (7) (a) or (c)
3less the amount that the school district or private school would be paying under sub.
4(2) (d) if the school district or private school were participating in the program
5established under sub. (1), except that the amount may not be greater than the cost
6that a school district or private school incurs under the contract in effect on
7October 14, 1997. A school district or private school receiving a grant under this
8subsection is not eligible to participate in the program under sub. (1). No grant may
9be awarded under this subsection after June 30, 2002.
