AB847,1,3 1An Act to amend 196.202 (2); and to create 196.202 (6) of the statutes; relating

notice of new telephone numbers with commercial mobile radio service

Under this bill, if a customer terminates service with a wireless
telecommunications provider, which is referred to under federal and state law as a
commercial mobile radio service provider, and the customer provides written or oral
notice to that provider of the customer's new telephone number with another
wireless telecommunications provider, then the customer's former wireless
telecommunications provider must inform persons who make calls to the customer's
old telephone number with the former wireless telecommunications provider of the
customer's new telephone number. The duty to inform callers about the new
telephone number lasts for a period of six weeks after the former wireless
telecommunications provider receives notice of the new telephone number.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:

1196.202 (2) Scope of regulation. A commercial mobile radio service provider
2is not subject to ch. 201 or this chapter, except as provided in sub. subs. (5) and (6),
3and except that a commercial mobile radio service provider is subject to s. 196.218
4(3) if the commission promulgates rules that designate commercial mobile radio
5service providers as eligible to receive universal service funding under both the
6federal and state universal service fund programs. If the commission promulgates
7such rules, a commercial mobile radio service provider shall respond, subject to the
8protection of the commercial mobile radio service provider's competitive
9information, to all reasonable requests for information about its operations in this
10state from the commission necessary to administer the universal service fund.
AB847, s. 2 11Section 2. 196.202 (6) of the statutes is created to read:
AB847,2,1212 196.202 (6) Notice of new telephone numbers. (a) In this subsection:
AB847,2,1413 1. "Former provider" means a commercial mobile radio service provider with
14whom a customer has terminated service.
AB847,2,1615 2. "New provider" means a commercial mobile radio service provider with
16whom a customer initiates service after terminating service with a former provider.
AB847,2,2117 (b) If a customer provides written or oral notice to a former provider of the
18customer's telephone number with a new provider, the former provider shall, for a
19period of 6 weeks after receiving the notice, inform persons who make calls to the
20customer's telephone number with the former provider of the customer's telephone
21number with the new provider.
