ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Alex C. Ruffing.
Whereas, Alex C. Ruffing was born on November 2, 1892, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and died on September 6, 1958, in Milwaukee; and
Whereas, Mr. Ruffing was a toolmaker at the Milwaukee Die Casting Company and member of the machinists union; and
Whereas, he was a member of the executive board and past state chairman of the Wisconsin Socialist Party; and
Whereas, Mr. Ruffing was first elected to the Wisconsin assembly in 1918, serving in the 1919 through 1925 sessions; and
Whereas, he was subsequently elected to the Wisconsin senate in 1926, serving in the 1927 session; and
Whereas, during his tenure in the legislature, Mr. Ruffing was a member of the Joint Committee on Finance; and
Whereas, Mr. Ruffing sponsored labor legislation and a pension law for the blind; and
Whereas, after leaving the legislature, he served as a Milwaukee alderman from 1928 until 1944; and
Whereas, Mr. Ruffing served as chairman of the Milwaukee city election commission from 1945 to 1949 when he became a city annexation solicitor until 1957; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That despite the passage of many years, the members of the Wisconsin legislature find it fitting to commend the devoted public service that Alex C. Ruffing contributed to this state and his community and recognize his accomplishments as a legislator and a citizen; and be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Mr. Ruffing's family.
