SB170,1,2 1An Act to amend 995.20 of the statutes; relating to: making June 19,
2Juneteenth Day, a legal holiday.

This bill adds June 19, Juneteenth Day, to the list of legal holidays. June 19,
1865, is the day that slaves throughout Texas first received word that all slaves in
the U.S. had been freed by President Lincoln.
A legal holiday is not counted when determining if a legal document has been
submitted, answered, or filed in a timely manner. Elections cannot be held on legal
holidays. This bill does not affect the number of paid holidays for public employees.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB170, s. 1 3Section 1. 995.20 of the statutes is amended to read:
SB170,2,14 4995.20 Legal holidays. January 1, January 15, the 3rd Monday in February
5(which shall be the day of celebration for February 12 and 22), the last Monday in
6May (which shall be the day of celebration for May 30), June 19, which shall be the
7day of observation for Juneteenth Day,
July 4, the 1st Monday in September which

1shall be known as Labor day, the 2nd Monday in October, November 11, the 4th
2Thursday in November (which shall be the day of celebration for Thanksgiving),
3December 25, the day of holding the September primary election, and the day of
4holding the general election in November are legal holidays. On Good Friday the
5period from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. shall uniformly be observed for the purpose of worship.
6In every 1st class city the day of holding any municipal election is a legal holiday, and
7in every such city the afternoon of each day upon which a primary election is held for
8the nomination of candidates for city offices is a half holiday and in counties having
9a population of 500,000 or more the county board may by ordinance provide that all
10county employees shall have a half holiday on the day of such primary election and
11a holiday on the day of such municipal election, and that employees whose duties
12require that they work on such days be given equivalent time off on other days.
13Whenever any of said days legal holiday falls on Sunday, the succeeding Monday
14shall be the legal holiday.
