2011 Assembly Joint Resolution 43
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Sheriff Raymond Klink.
Whereas, Sheriff Raymond Klink was born on July 23, 1930, in North Lake, Wisconsin, and died on January 17, 2011, a lifelong resident of Waukesha County; and
Whereas, Ray served his community with great distinction as a law enforcement officer in Waukesha County for over 35 years; and
Whereas, Ray began his career in law enforcement in 1958 when he joined the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department; and
Whereas, Ray was elected to the position of Waukesha County Sheriff in 1978; and
Whereas, Ray was instrumental in advancing the mission and goals of the department, including hiring Waukesha County's first female deputy in 1979, instituting both the D.A.R.E. Program and Metro Drug Unit in Waukesha County, and raising private funds to begin a canine unit; and
Whereas, Ray displayed unwavering leadership and was held in the highest regard by his colleagues upon the time of his retirement in 1992; and
Whereas, Ray received many professional and personal accolades during his life, including appointment as emergency government coordinator of southeastern Wisconsin by Governor Warren Knowles, induction into the Land O' Lakes Old Timers Hall of Fame in 1978, and induction into the Wisconsin Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999; and
Whereas, Ray continued to be active in his community following his retirement by volunteering with the American Cancer Society's Jail and Bail program, volunteering with the Land O' Lakes Old Timers and later serving as the group's president, influencing the lives of countless young people through his athletic coaching at St. Dominic's Grade School, and engaging in a number of other recreational and community activities that he enjoyed greatly; and
Whereas, Ray benefited greatly throughout his life and career from the strong love and support of his wife of 55 years, Margaret, their daughter Robin, son-in-law Brian, granddaughters Emily and Molly, and brother Patrick; and always displayed total devotion to his family; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature do commend the distinguished career and public service that Sheriff Raymond Klink contributed to his community, express their sorrow at his death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Ray's widow, Margaret, and to his daughter, Robin.
