2011 Assembly Joint Resolution 44
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Virgil D. Roberts and honoring his many accomplishments.
Whereas, Virgil D. Roberts was born on April 13, 1922, and died on April 6, 2011; and
Whereas, Virgil D. Roberts lived in Mindoro, Wisconsin and later in Holmen, Wisconsin, where he became involved with the Democratic Party, and was elected to serve the 94th Assembly District; and
Whereas, Virgil D. Roberts spent 22 years passionately dedicated to representing the people of the 94th Assembly District in the Wisconsin legislature, where he served on several committees and had friends among, and was greatly respected by, members from both sides of the aisle; and
Whereas, Virgil D. Roberts had many accomplishments as a representative including the creation of several bike trails, North Hall at UW-La Crosse, the travel center at French Island, and key transportation projects such as the Highway 53 corridor between Holmen and Onalaska; and
Whereas, Virgil D. Roberts was committed to public education and spent many happy and productive hours visiting classrooms, where he took great pleasure in educating students on the importance of government; and
Whereas, Virgil D. Roberts was trained as a telegrapher and spent 37 years as an operator and dispatcher with the Milwaukee Railroad; and
Whereas, Virgil D. Roberts was a loving husband for 66 years to his wife Alice, father of Ann, Joan, Gordon, and Janet, grandfather of Randy, Angie, Dani, Derek, Kent, Andrew, Karissa, and Kalina, and great-grandfather of Max, Ben, Blair, Sydney, Peyton, Kylie, William, Katelyn, Avery, and Brynn; and
Whereas, Virgil D. Roberts gave earnest service and held leadership positions in many organizations, including director for the Park Bank of Holmen for 27 years, participation on the Holmen and Mindoro school boards, and membership in the Holmen Lutheran Church, the Holmen Lion's Club, and the La Crosse Democratic Party; and
Whereas, Virgil D. Roberts will be treasured for his love of family and friends, wry perspective, and zest for music, dancing, and storytelling; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin legislature commends the life and public service of Virgil D. Roberts and mourns his passing; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Virgil D. Roberts' wife Alice.
