ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: commending Reince Priebus on his election as chairman of the Republican National Committee.
Whereas, Reince Priebus was born on March 18, 1972, to Richard and Dimitra Priebus and was raised in Kenosha, Wisconsin; and
Whereas, Reince Priebus' earliest political aspirations began in third grade at Pleasant Prairie Elementary School where he was the self-appointed manager of Ronald Reagan's presidential bid; and
Whereas, by age 16 Reince Priebus began volunteering for political campaigns and graduated from George Nelson Tremper High School in 1990; and
Whereas, Reince Priebus obtained a bachelor's degree in political science and English in 1994 from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater where he was student body president; and
Whereas, Reince Priebus worked in the Wisconsin Legislature for a year and then went to law school receiving a law degree from the University of Miami School of Law in 1998; and
Whereas, during law school he clerked for the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, the Supreme Court of Wisconsin, the United States District Court Southern District of Florida and interned for the NAACP legal defense fund. He also served as the copy editor for Res Ipsa Loquitur, the journal of the University of Miami School of Law, and was a member of the University of Miami Business Law Review; and
Whereas, Reince Priebus was admitted to the Wisconsin Bar in 1998 and joined the law firm of Michael Best and Friedrich LLP in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and
Whereas, Reince Priebus' first date with the woman who became his wife was at the Kenosha County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner where representatives Henry J. Hyde of Illinois and James F. Sensenbrenner Jr. of Wisconsin were delivering keynote speeches; and
Whereas, Reince Priebus married his wife Sally in 1999 and they currently live in Kenosha, Wisconsin, with their two children Jack, six, and Grace, almost one; and
Whereas, the Milwaukee Business Journal recognized Reince Priebus as one of Milwaukee's Forty under 40, class of 2008, and Super Lawyers named him a “Rising Star"; and
Whereas, Reince Priebus ran an unsuccessful bid for the Wisconsin Senate in 2004 which led him to serving as the treasurer and later being elected chairman of the Wisconsin Republican Party in 2007; and
Whereas, Reince Priebus became general counsel for the Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele in 2009; and
Whereas, on January 14, 2011, Reince Priebus was elected the 65th chairman of the Republican National Committee after seven rounds of balloting; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin legislature commends Reince Priebus on his election as chairman of the Republican National Committee and wishes him success in his new role.
