ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: commending Michael R. Lovell as Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Whereas, Michael R. Lovell, Ph.D., was confirmed as Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee by the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents on May 2, 2011; and
Whereas, since his arrival on the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee campus, Chancellor Lovell has been named a State of Wisconsin Distinguished Professor, a designation by the University of Wisconsin System that recognizes and supports professorships in areas of vital or emerging significance to the state; and
Whereas, one of Chancellor Lovell's most significant accomplishments since joining the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee includes helping to create the Wisconsin Energy Research Consortium, a historic partnership among University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Marquette University, Milwaukee School of Engineering, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and regional power and energy industries; and
Whereas, as dean of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee College of Engineering and Applied Science from 2008 to 2010, Chancellor Lovell guided the college to a 250 percent increase in research expenditures and nearly a 350 percent increase in philanthropic support; and
Whereas, Chancellor Lovell celebrated his inauguration as the eighth chancellor in the history of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on October 14, 2011; and
Whereas, through his hard work and dedication, Chancellor Lovell will guide the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee to new heights and focus the faculty, staff, and students to make a difference through their teaching and research on the challenges facing our region, state, nation, and world; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin legislature commends Chancellor Michael Lovell as he begins his new assignment and wishes him continued success in teaching our new state leaders in how to serve others and make a positive difference for our community.
