ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: honoring the members of Bon Iver and Justin Vernon on their 2012 Grammy Awards.
Whereas, the alternative band Bon Iver won Grammy Awards for Best New Artist and Best Alternative Music Album on February 12, 2012; and
Whereas, Bon Iver's founder, Justin Vernon, graduated from Memorial High School in Eau Claire, and attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire; and
Whereas, Justin Vernon recorded the majority of Bon Iver's debut album, For Emma, Forever Ago, in a cabin in northwestern Wisconsin; and
Whereas, the original CD release show of Bon Iver's first album took place at the House of Rock in Eau Claire, Wisconsin; and
Whereas, Bon Iver's self-titled second album was recorded in a remodeled veterinarian clinic in Fall Creek, Wisconsin; and
Whereas, Justin Vernon and his brother Nate bought the veterinarian clinic and transformed it into their recording studio; and
Whereas, this new recording studio is just three miles from the house in which Justin Vernon grew up, and ten minutes from the bar where his parents met; and
Whereas, Bon Iver's music has garnered international and critical acclaim; and
Whereas, Bon Iver is the most successful alternative band from Wisconsin in more than a decade; and
Whereas, Bon Iver and Justin Vernon are not just from Wisconsin, but also they write about, sing about, and celebrate the natural beauty of Wisconsin; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature congratulates the members of Bon Iver and Justin Vernon on their Grammy Awards, commends Bon Iver and Justin Vernon for bringing pride to the residents of Wisconsin, and wishes the group continued musical and personal success.
