2011 Senate Resolution 20
ENGROSSED RESOLUTION
Relating to: recognizing the centennial of the establishment of the Republic of China (Taiwan).
Whereas, National Celebration Day, also known as Double Ten Day, is celebrated every year on October 10th to commemorate the 1911 Wuchang Uprising, which led to the collapse of the Qing Dynasty in China; and
Whereas, that milestone was quickly followed by the establishment of the Republic of China (Taiwan) on January 1, 1912, under the leadership of the visionary Dr. Sun Yat-sen; and
Whereas, the Republic of China (Taiwan) is both the first and the oldest republic in Asia; and
Whereas, the Republic of China (Taiwan) is a vibrant democracy and economic powerhouse that protects human rights, governs through the rule of law, and continually seeks participation in international affairs; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the
senate, That the members of the senate offer their congratulations to President Ma Ying-jeou on the centennial year of the founding of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and a century of social, political, and economic achievements; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall deliver a copy of this resolution to President Ma Ying-jeou of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Taiwan Governor Lin Junq-tzer, and Director General Perry Shen of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago.
