2017 Senate Joint Resolution 50
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: congratulating Bay Beach Amusement Park in Green Bay on 125 years of continuous operation.
Whereas, Bay Beach Amusement park dates back to 1892, when Mitchell Nejedlo opened a dance hall, bar, and bathhouse named Bay View Beach on the shore of the Bay of Green Bay; and
Whereas, throughout the first decades of the 20th century, Bay Beach served as a popular swimming and leisure destination for the residents of Northeast Wisconsin; and
Whereas, in 1920, then-owners Frank Emery Murphy and Fred A. Rahr donated the park and all of its attractions to the city of Green Bay to be used as a public park; and
Whereas, in 1934, President Franklin D. Roosevelt visited Bay Beach as part of Green Bay's tercentennial celebration of the landing of French explorer Jean Nicolet at Red Banks; and
Whereas, Bay Beach is the 9th-oldest continuously operating amusement park in the United States and is tied for 21st-oldest in the world; and
Whereas, Bay Beach is home to the 4th-oldest wooden roller coaster in the world, and one time favorite ride of Elvis Presley, the Zippin Pippin; and
Whereas, Bay Beach continues to thrive and expand with the support of the Friends of Bay Beach and the citizens of Green Bay, bringing new and exciting attractions to generations of families across our region, state, and the world; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature congratulates Bay Beach Amusement Park in Green Bay on 125 years of continuous operation; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this resolution to the mayor of Green Bay and the Friends of Bay Beach, Inc.
