Whereas, cardiovascular diseases cause one in three women's deaths each year
3in the United States, yet 80 percent of cardiovascular diseases may be prevented; and

Whereas, cardiovascular diseases and stroke kill one woman every 80 seconds

Whereas, an estimated 44 million women in the United States are affected by
7cardiovascular diseases; and

Whereas, 90 percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing
9heart disease or stroke; and

Whereas, women are less likely to call 911 for themselves when experiencing
11symptoms of a heart attack than they are if someone else were having a heart attack;

Whereas, only 36 percent of African-American women and 34 percent of
14Hispanic women know that heart disease is their greatest health risk, compared
15with 65 percent of Caucasian women; and

1Whereas, the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women movement
2motivates women to learn their family history and to meet with a health care
3provider to determine their risk for cardiovascular diseases and stroke; and

Whereas, Go Red For Women encourages women to take control of their heart

assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature, in
14recognition of the importance of the ongoing fight against heart disease and stroke,
15does hereby proclaim February 2017 to be American Heart Month in Wisconsin.
