2019 Assembly Resolution 8
ENGROSSED RESOLUTION
Relating to: recognizing October 10, 2019, as World Mental Health Day.
Whereas, World Mental Health Day is observed by the World Health Organization on October 10; and
Whereas, the objective of this day is to raise awareness for people all around the world who are affected by mental health issues; and
Whereas, one in five U.S. adults experiences mental illness each year and one in six U.S. youth experiences a mental health disorder each year; and
Whereas, suicide is the second leading cause of death among people aged 10 to 34 and the tenth leading cause of death in the United States; and
Whereas, only 43 percent of U.S. adults with a mental illness received treatment in 2018; and
Whereas, people with depression have a 40 percent higher risk of developing cardiovascular and metabolic diseases than the general population, and caregivers of adults with a mental health issue spend an average of 32 hours per week providing unpaid care; and
Whereas, 8.4 million people in the United States provide care to an adult with a mental health issue; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, That the Wisconsin Legislature recognizes October 10, 2019, to be World Mental Health Day.
