ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: proclaiming April as Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month in Wisconsin.
Whereas, April is recognized nationally as Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month; and
Whereas, safe, stable, and nurturing relationships are essential to ensure that children reach their full potential and to prevent child maltreatment; and
Whereas, the toxic stress produced by child abuse and neglect is a significant public health problem with lasting and damaging effects on children's psychological, physical, and social health into adulthood; and
Whereas, building family protective factors, including parental resilience, knowledge of parenting and child development, social and emotional competence of children, concrete supports in times of need, and social connections, promotes the optimal development of children while reducing the likelihood of child maltreatment; and
Whereas, every individual can play a role in building strong families and preventing child abuse and neglect; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the Wisconsin Legislature proclaims April as Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month in Wisconsin and calls upon all citizens, government and community agencies, religious and civic institutions, health care organizations, and businesses to make a difference in the lives of Wisconsin children by working together to strengthen families and the communities in which they live.
