Exit access. This is a department exception to the requirements in IBC section 1014.3: The length of a common path of egress travel requirements shall not be limited within townhouse dwelling units provided the townhouse complies with all of the following:

The separation wall does not have to comply with the structural stability requirements of IBC section 705.2 and the horizontal continuity requirements of IBC section 705.5.

SPS 362.1021(1)(1) Substitute the following wording for the requirements in IBC section 1021.1: All rooms and spaces within each story shall be provided with and have access to the minimum number of approved independent exits required by Table 1021.1 based on the occupant load of the story. For the purposes of this chapter, occupied roof shall be provided with exits as required for stories. The required number of exits from any story, basement or individual space shall be maintained until arrival at grade or the public way.
