Notice of Hearings
The Department of Natural Resources announces that it will hold a public hearing on a permanent rule, WM-02-17. These rules are related to establishing migratory bird hunting seasons and regulations.  The rules revise Ch. NR 10 Wis. Admin. Code.  The hearings will be held at the time and places shown below.
Hearing Information
Date: May 2, 2017
Time: 11:00 a.m.
Location: Room 608 of the Natural Resources State Office Building (GEF-2), 101 South Webster St., Madison, 53707.
Rule Information
These rules may modify season dates, bag limits, and other regulations for the duck and goose hunting seasons, most of which begin in September. These seasons are part of the federal migratory bird season frameworks and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service needs to be informed of the State of Wisconsin Natural Resources Board decisions on these seasons in the spring season of 2017.
This rule would reduce the daily bag limit for pintails from two to one.
This proposal would also eliminate the two periods for Canada goose hunting in the Horicon Canada goose management zone. The rule establishes one Canada goose hunting season and people will be allowed to hunt on any day of the continuous 92 day season instead of selecting either an early or a late permit period.
The proposed modifications included in this rule order are consistent with the parameters and guidelines which are annually established by the USFWS in 50 CFR 20. Additional rule provisions may be added following finalization of the federal migratory bird season framework by the service.
