ASSEMBLY SUBSTITUTE AMENDMENT 2, TO 2011 ASSEMBLY JOINT RESOLUTION 34

AJR34-ASA2,1,1 Relating to: pregnancy care centers.

AJR34-ASA2,1,4 Whereas, pregnancy care centers are not licensed to provide health care services in Wisconsin and, therefore, are not required to comply with medical ethics or operate under Wisconsin's informed consent law; and

AJR34-ASA2,1,6 Whereas, pregnancy care centers do not provide physical exams, STD treatment, birth control counseling, or prenatal care coordination; and

AJR34-ASA2,1,9 Whereas, many pregnancy care centers give women false and misleading information about contraceptive devices and procedures, often refusing to provide referrals for contraception; and

AJR34-ASA2,1,13 Whereas, many pregnancy care centers use deceptive marketing tactics, including advertising themselves as abortion providers online and in phone books, and refuse to provide referrals for abortions to patients who come to them to obtain an abortion; and

AJR34-ASA2,2,4 Whereas, an investigation by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform found that 87 percent of pregnancy care centers receiving federal funding provided false and misleading information about the health risks of abortion; now, therefore, be it

AJR34-ASA2,2,8 Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature strongly support the full disclosure of all accurate and relevant information to any woman facing doubts or concerns about her pregnancy; and, be it further

AJR34-ASA2,2,12 Resolved, That a sincere conviction in the immorality of abortion does not provide moral license to deliver false, misleading, or incomplete information to deceive, manipulate, or coerce women into continuing unwanted pregnancies; and, be it further

AJR34-ASA2,2,16 Resolved, That the Wisconsin legislature disapproves of the actions of any national, state, or local group attempting to provide anything other than complete and accurate information to women considering the range of health care options guaranteed to them under the Constitution of the United States of America.
