SENATE AMENDMENT 1, TO SENATE BILL 542

SB542-SA1,1,1 At the locations indicated, amend the bill as follows:

SB542-SA1,1,3 1. Page 1, line 3: after “benefits" insert “, methods of filing for claims for unemployment insurance benefits,".

SB542-SA1,1,4 2. Page 2, line 1: before that line insert:

SB542-SA1,1,5 “ Section 1c. 108.08 (1) of the statutes is amended to read:

SB542-SA1,1,10 108.08 (1) To receive benefits for any given week of unemployment, a claimant shall give notice to the department with respect to such week of unemployment within such time and in such manner as the department may by rule prescribe, except that the department shall permit such notice to be given to the department via telephone.

SB542-SA1,1g Section 1g. 108.09 (1) of the statutes is amended to read:

SB542-SA1,2,5 108.09 (1) Filing. Claims for benefits shall be filed pursuant to department rules, except that the department shall permit claims for benefits to be filed via telephone. Each employer that is notified of a benefit claim shall promptly inform the department in writing as to any eligibility question in objection to such claim together with the reasons for the objection. The department may also obtain information from the employee concerning the employee's eligibility, employment or wages.”.

SB542-SA1,2,8 3. Page 3, line 2: delete that line and substitute “(1) The renumbering and amendment of section 108.24 (1) of the statutes and the creation of section 108.24 (1) (b) and (c) of the statutes”.

SB542-SA1,2,9 4. Page 3, line 3: delete “applies" and substitute “apply".

SB542-SA1,2,11 5. Page 3, line 6: delete “Unemployment insurance; criminal penalties for benefit fraud.".
