ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Thomas P. Fox.
Whereas, Thomas P. Fox was born in Appleton, Wisconsin, on May 27, 1946, the son of Jerome and Rosemary Fox, and he died in Madison, Wisconsin, on August 2, 1994; and
Whereas, Tom graduated from Chilton High School; and earned a B.A. degree from the College at St. Thomas, where he was the president of the student body and recipient of the "Mr. Tommy" award for student leadership; and earned a law degree in 1971 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison; and
Whereas, he practiced law in Washburn; and
Whereas, his long and distinguished record of public service included service as Chief Clerk of the Assembly during the 1971-72 session, as the youngest member ever to serve as the chairperson of the department of natural resources, as executive legal counsel to Governor Martin Schreiber in 1978 and 1979, as a member of the UW Board of Regents and as Commissioner of Insurance from 1983 to 1987; and
Whereas, Tom was known for his wit, his keen sense of humor and his interest in public service and good government; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the legislature of the state of Wisconsin commend the life and public service of Thomas P. Fox, express their sorrow at his death and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the Assembly Chief Clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to his wife, Colleen; his children, Bridget and Maureen; his mother, Mrs. Jerome Fox; his brothers and sister, Jerome, Kathleen, Michael, John, Terry, and Rosemary, and to his children's mother, Susan Fox.
