ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: commending Gaylord Nelson on his receipt of a national medal of freedom.
Whereas, on September 28, 1995, Gaylord Nelson will be one of 12 persons who will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, this nation's highest civilian honor; and
Whereas, Mr. Nelson served in the Wisconsin legislature, was governor of Wisconsin and represented Wisconsin in the U.S. senate; and
Whereas, in 1970 he founded Earth Day, which alerted millions of persons in this country that protecting the environment was urgent business that required their constant vigilance and best efforts; and
Whereas, he also was the author of the Environmental Education Act, was named Conservationist of the Year, received the Environmental Leadership Award and is now counselor to the Wilderness Society; and
Whereas, this preeminent champion of the environment is receiving recognition of the highest order for his achievements; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the legislature of the state of Wisconsin congratulate Gaylord Nelson on his great honor, receipt of the Presidential Medal of Freedom; salute him for his work for the environment and his other achievements; and urge him to continue his efforts; an, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Gaylord Nelson.
