ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: congratulating the University of Wisconsin-Madison for its excellent doctoral programs.
Whereas, for decades the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) has been ranked among the top universities in the United States, with undergraduate and graduate students alike benefiting from its dedication to excellence in teaching, research and public service; and
Whereas, UW-Madison's tradition of excellence continues to be recognized with an announcement in September by the prestigious National Research Council (NRC) that 16 doctoral programs at UW-Madison rank among the nation's top 10 in their respective fields; and
Whereas, an additional 19 UW-Madison doctoral programs rank among the 25 best in the nation, as reported in a comprehensive analysis conducted by the NRC every 10 years; and
Whereas, overall, the quality of UW-Madison's doctoral programs ranks among the top 10 of 274 doctorate-granting public and private universities included in the nationwide survey; and
Whereas, the NRC survey illustrates UW-Madison's excellence across a wide variety of disciplines, from foreign languages to biochemistry, and from geography to computer science and engineering; and
Whereas, the strength and prosperity of our citizens, communities and statewide economy is inextricably linked to the continued well-being and success of public higher education in Wisconsin; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin legislature congratulates UW-Madison and its distinguished faculty and staff for this national recognition, and for its steadfast commitment to preparing Wisconsin citizens for life, work and success in the 21st century.
