1995 Assembly Joint Resolution 86
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: terrorist bombings in Israel.
Whereas, the people of Wisconsin have been appalled by the recent wave of terrorist bombings against innocent Israeli civilians; and
Whereas, the conscience of every decent citizen is moved by the suffering of the victims and their families; and
Whereas, the state of Wisconsin has long maintained friendship with the state of Israel; and
Whereas, the Wisconsin legislature recently expressed this friendship by its adoption of 1995 Senate Joint Resolution 48, honoring this year's observances of the 3,000th anniversary of the establishment of Jerusalem as the eternal capital of the Jewish nation; and
Whereas, a member of the Wisconsin legislature visited Israel last month and met with Prime Minister Shimon Peres to express this friendship and the hope of all Wisconsinites for the success of the peace process; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature condemn acts of terrorism against innocent Israeli civilians; express their condolences to the families of the victims and to all of the people of Israel; state that the people of Wisconsin stand in friendship with the people of Israel during this tragic period; offer their solidarity to the members of Wisconsin's Jewish community; who feel especially devastated by these killings due to their ancestral connection to Israel; urge enactment of reasonable laws that may be necessary to ensure that financial and other support for such terrorism is not emanating from our country or our state; support actions by the United States in the international arena to act against any nations or groups that promote terrorism; and call on Palestinian Authority Chairman Yassir Arafat to act decisively against terrorist groups based in the areas under his jurisdiction; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to the Prime Minister of Israel, Wisconsin's congressional delegation, Palestinian Authority Chairman Yassir Arafat and the chair of the Wisconsin Jewish Conference.
