ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: supporting the veterans rehabilitation program.
Whereas, the department of veterans affairs has launched a new statewide veterans rehabilitation program in partnership with the U.S. department of veterans affairs; and
Whereas, local organizations, including the Center for Veterans Issues and the Milwaukee County Social Development Commission are supporting the veterans rehabilitation program; and
Whereas, Vets Place Central was recently opened in Milwaukee as a facility to provide services under the veterans rehabilitation program; and
Whereas, a veterans rehabilitation center opened in November, 1994, at Fort McCoy and additional centers under the program are planned for the Fox River Valley, Madison and Superior; and
Whereas, each veterans rehabilitation center will assist homeless veterans to obtain the services that they need to gain employment and housing, including job training and education, counseling, health care and drug and alcohol treatment; and
Whereas, up to 10,000 Wisconsin veterans are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless because they are unemployed or underemployed; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the department of veterans affairs, the U.S. department of veterans affairs and the local organizations working with these departments are saluted by the people of Wisconsin for the work that they have done to make the veterans rehabilitation program a success.
