1995 Senate Joint Resolution 9
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to the life and public service of Henry Maier.
Whereas, Henry Maier was born on February 7, 1918, in Dayton, Ohio, and died on July 17, 1994, in Delafield; and
Whereas, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II; and
Whereas, he was elected to the senate in 1950 and reelected in 1954 and 1958; and
Whereas, he served on the governmental and veterans affairs committee and the committee on education and was the democratic floor leader for 4 sessions; and
Whereas, he was elected Mayor of Milwaukee in 1960 and left office in 1988, his 28-year service in that office being the longest in that city's history; and
Whereas, his tenure was marked by many accomplishments; such as the creation of the department of city development, extensive construction of public housing for the elderly, the acquisition of substantial state and federal revenue, and the founding of Summerfest; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the Assembly concurring, That the members of the legislature of the state of Wisconsin commend the decades of devoted public service that Henry Maier performed for this state and the City of Milwaukee, express their sorrow at his death and express their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to Henry Maier's wife, Dr. Karen Lamb, and to his daughters, Melinda and Melanie.
