ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Richard Weinke.
Whereas, Richard A. Weinke, a peace officer in Sauk County and a member of the United States Marine Reserves, was killed in the line of duty on April 5, 1998; and
Whereas, Richard was born at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina on July 1, 1973, and graduated in 1991 from Reedsburg Webb High School; and
Whereas, Richard entered the United States Marine Corps in 1992 and was a member of the United States Marine Reserves at the time of his death, holding the rank of sergeant; and
Whereas, Richard was a graduate of Madison Area Technical College, where he earned a degree in Police Science in November 1996 and graduated with awards for Top Grade Point Average, Top Shooter and Top Notebook and was elected Sergeant at Arms of his police science class; and
Whereas, Richard began his career in law enforcement in May 1994 with the Sauk County Sheriff's Department as a jailer and was promoted in August 1997 to the position of patrol officer; and
Whereas, Richard is survived by his wife, Julie, whom he married on August 22, 1997; and 8-year-old daughter, Jade Weinke; a 3-year-old son, Brandon Weinke; his parents, Harold and Carol Weinke; and his sister, Dawn Thompson; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commemorate the life and public service and mourn the death of Richard A. Weinke and extend their sympathy to his family, colleagues and many friends, who will miss him dearly; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to his parents; Harold and Carol; his wife, Julie; his children, Jade and Brandon; his sister, Dawn; and the Sauk County Sheriff's Department, in order to display a copy in a fitting manner at the Sauk County Courthouse.
