1997 Senate Joint Resolution 23
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: commemorating the deaths of 3 U.S. air force reservists from the Milwaukee area.
Whereas, on April 1, 1997, a U.S. air force reserve cargo plane crashed in Honduras, and of the 10 persons who were on that plane, 7 were injured and 3 died; and
Whereas, that aircraft was based at Mitchell Field in Milwaukee, and 8 of the 10 persons on it were residents of Wisconsin; and
Whereas, the 3 reservists who died were Senior Master Sergeant Leland Rassmussen of Greenfield, Staff Sergeant Vicki Clifton of Oak Creek and Senior Airman Samuel Keene of Milwaukee; and
Whereas, the fact that 3 residents of Wisconsin died, and 7 other persons were injured, during a U.S. air force reserve mission should remind us all that, while serving their nation and their states, reservists on occasion courageously face danger and even death; and
Whereas, this tragedy should lead to increased appreciation of, and commitment to, our reservists; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature express their sorrow over the deaths of Senior Master Sergeant Leland Rassmussen, Staff Sergeant Vicki Clifton and Senior Airman Samuel Keene; extend their condolences to those reservists' families, including their 440 Airlift Wing family; express their hope that the injured members of the crew recover quickly and completely; and recognize the benefits that the reservists on that flight and all other reservists have provided to this nation; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to the families of the 3 reservists who died in the line of duty and to the 7 injured reservists.
