1999 Assembly Resolution 6
ENGROSSED RESOLUTION
Relating to: commending Mel Knoke as the first Green Bay Packer fan ever inducted into the Green Bay Packer Fan Hall of Fame.
Whereas, Mel Knoke has cheered for the Green Bay Packer Football Team at 450 home games throughout his entire 91 years of life; and
Whereas, Mel Knoke, through his hard work as a distinguished businessman of the City of Appleton running Knoke's Lumber Yard and as a prominent member of the Appleton Rotary Club, has contributed much to his community; and
Whereas, Mel Knoke and his late wife, Leona, have attended home games in Green Bay since 1927 and would religiously go together to cheer for "America's Team"; and
Whereas, Mel Knoke has introduced over 275 fans to Green Bay Packer football games throughout the autumns of the National Football League seasons; and
Whereas, Mel Knoke has had the honor and pleasure of witnessing three Super Bowl Titles and nine World Championships for his beloved Green Bay Packers; and
Whereas, Mel Knoke has attended 71 years of harsh and cold games in the frozen tundra of City Stadium and Lambeau Field; and
Whereas, Mel Knoke has had the pleasure of starring in a National Football League commercial showing his loyalty to America's Pack, stating "My Name is Mel Knoke, and I feel the Power!"; and
Whereas, Mel Knoke went to see his first Green Bay Packer home game, in 1927 at the City Stadium, coached by Earl "Curly" Lambeau; and has seen ten other coaches on the sideline in Green Bay, namely Gene Rozani, Lisle Blackbourn, Ray "Scooter" McLean, Vince Lombardi, Phil Bengston, Dan Devine, Bart Starr, Forrest Gregg, Lindy Infante and Mike Holmgren; and
Whereas, Mel Knoke will be enshrined in the same building with some of Wisconsin's and America's heroes, such as Ray Nitschke, Bart Starr, Don Hutson, Jerry Kramer and Vince Lombardi; and
Whereas, Mel Knoke will be always remembered and beloved as the greatest fan of the greatest football team of the greatest city in the greatest state; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, That the Wisconsin assembly commends Mel Knoke as the first Green Bay Packer fan ever inducted into the Green Bay Packer Fan Hall of Fame; and, be it further
Resolved, That the Wisconsin assembly proclaims January 31, 1999, (Super Bowl Sunday) "Mel Knoke Day" throughout the state of Wisconsin in honor of this great green and gold fan; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this resolution to Mel Knoke and his family.
