ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: declaring March 2, 1999, Read Across Wisconsin Day.
Whereas, reading ability is necessary for a complete education and a successful career; and
Whereas, reading ability is essential to our state's economic competitiveness; and
Whereas, reading is a source of pleasure; and
Whereas, the Wisconsin Education Association Council, the School Administrators Alliance, the Wisconsin Association of School Boards, the Wisconsin Library Association, the Wisconsin Newspaper Association and the Wisconsin PTA have joined together to celebrate reading on Dr. Seuss' birthday; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That, to celebrate reading and to honor Dr. Seuss and others like him for encouraging children to read, the Wisconsin legislature declares March 2, 1999, "Read Across Wisconsin Day", encourages all parents to read to their children for one-half hour on this day and encourages all children to spend time with someone who will read to them on this day.
