2001 Assembly Joint Resolution 59
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: proclaiming September 11th of each year as a State Day of Remembrance.
Whereas, the tragic events of September 11, 2001, brought sorrow to our nation and Wisconsin and especially the families who lost loved ones; and
Whereas, the actions of terrorists were designed to strike fear in the hearts and minds of all Americans and break our nation's spirit; and
Whereas, in the hours and days that followed these tragic events, the strength of America came shining through with extraordinary acts of courage and sacrifice to rescue those in harm's way, selfless acts of compassion and sympathy for the victims of this tragedy, willing acts of volunteers to help in any way possible, and the patriotic acts of Americans showing their support for this great nation and all that it stands for; and
Whereas, the Wisconsin State Legislature is united in its support for the actions of President George W. Bush and the Congress to declare war on terrorism and the rogue nations that aid and abet terrorists; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin State Legislature proclaim September 11th of each year as a State Day of Remembrance; and, be it further
Resolved, That the Wisconsin State Legislature extends its deepest condolences to the victims of this terrible tragedy, especially those with ties to Wisconsin, as well as to their family, friends, and loved ones; and, be it further
Resolved, That the Wisconsin State Legislature commends the courageous actions of fire fighters, police, and other rescue workers and all Americans including the residents of this state who heeded the call to help the victims; and, be it further
Resolved, That the Wisconsin State Legislature salutes the unity and patriotism of the American people, who hold diverse religious beliefs and represent diverse ethnic heritages; and, be it further
Resolved, That the members of the Wisconsin State Legislature call upon the people of Wisconsin to join with them in supporting the brave men and women in our Armed Forces as they carry out their noble mission to rid the world of the scourge of terrorism.
