2001 Senate Resolution 6
ENGROSSED RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Jim Besson, mayor of Greenfield.
Whereas, Jim Besson served as the only mayor of Greenfield ever elected to 4 terms; and
Whereas, his accomplishments include oversight of the construction of a new city hall; and
Whereas, Jim was instrumental in the development of parks in Greenfield, including development of the city's largest park — Konkol Park, along with the creation of Dan Jansen Park to honor the Greenfield resident and Olympic gold medallist speed skater and assisting with a public/private partnership with Milwaukee County to develop Alan Kulwicki Park honoring the Greenfield resident and Winston Cup champion; and
Whereas, Jim was a strong supporter of the Greenfield DARE program, helping to solidly establish the program in Greenfield schools, along with facilitating the creation of the Greenfield police canine program; and
Whereas, Jim accomplished all of this while serving as a part-time mayor in a city of over 30,000 simultaneously with owning and operating Besson Auto Body in West Allis for 30 years; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, That the members of the Wisconsin senate memorialize Jim Besson for his tireless contributions to the city of Greenfield and the state of Wisconsin; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this resolution to Mr. Besson's family.
