ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life of Marine Sergeant Kirk Allen Straseskie.
Whereas, Marine Sergeant Kirk Allen Straseskie was born on November 19, 1979, in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, and died on Monday, May 19, 2003, near Karbala, Iraq, while attempting to save the lives of 4 of his fellow Marines whose CH-46 Sea-Knight helicopter had crashed into a canal; and
Whereas, Sgt. Straseskie, served with distinction and honor with B Company, 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, out of Camp Pendleton, California; and
Whereas, Sgt. Straseskie graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1998, where he participated in football and wrestling and enjoyed playing the violin as well as volunteering with disabled children; and
Whereas, Sgt. Straseskie chose to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather by joining the military after graduating from high school; and
Whereas, Sgt. Straseskie, made the ultimate sacrifice for his country while advancing the cause of freedom for the Iraqi people; and
Whereas, Sgt. Straseskie will always be remembered for his bravery and courage and will never be forgotten; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the life of Marine Sergeant Kirk Allen Straseskie, express their sorrow at his death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to Sgt. Straseskie's father and stepmother, John and Barbara Straseskie, of Beaver Dam; to his brothers, John Straseskie, Jr., of West Virginia, Christopher Straseskie, of Fond du Lac, and Ryan Straseskie, of Middleton; to his maternal grandparents, Ken and Janice Helmer, of Beaver Dam; to his paternal grandmother, Yvonne Straseskie, of Beaver Dam; and to his fiancee, Kate Klossner, of Juneau.
