ENGROSSED RESOLUTION
Relating to: recognizing Assembly Chief Clerk Patrick Fuller on the occasion of his 50th Birthday.
Whereas, Patrick Fuller was born on February 24, 1954, in Toledo, Ohio; and
Whereas, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in May 1972, where he served with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Marine Divisions; and
Whereas, Patrick was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Marines from Officer Candidate School in 1980; and
Whereas, in 1981 Patrick was assigned to E Company 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines, 2nd Marine Division as a Platoon Commander; and
Whereas, in 1982 he was accepted as a Platoon Commander in the 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion and during that tour his platoon was deployed to Beirut, Lebanon; and
Whereas, in 1984 Patrick was reassigned to the Naval Amphibious Base in Little Creek, Virginia, as an instructor at the Amphibious Reconnaissance School and as a Course Team Director; and
Whereas, in 1986, then Captain Patrick Fuller initiated an interservice transfer to the United States Army and attended the Infantry Officer Advance Course and upon completion was assigned to the 3rd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division; and
Whereas, after a successful 18-month command, Patrick became Commander of the 82nd Airborne Division Long Range Surveillance Detachment and deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm; and
Whereas, in 1991 Patrick activated and assumed command of the XVIII Airborne Corps Long Range Surveillance Company; and
Whereas, in 1994 then Major Patrick Fuller was selected to attend the United States Army Command and General Staff and upon completion was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 505 Parachute Infantry Regiment, 6th Infantry Division in Ft. Richardson, Alaska, as the Battalion Executive Officer; and
Whereas, in 1996 Patrick was reassigned to the United States Army Alaska Chief of Plans and Operations; and
Whereas, in September 1997, Lieutenant Colonel Patrick retired after 25 plus years of active military service; and
Whereas, during his distinguished career he received many awards and decorations including Combat Infantryman's Badge, Expert Infantryman's Badge, Ranger Tab, Pathfinder Badge, Combat Divers Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Legion of Merit Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with star, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal with star, Southwest Asia Service Medal with star, and Kuwait Liberation Medal; and
Whereas, in 1998 Patrick was employed by the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs as Director of Troops to Teachers; and
Whereas, in 2001 Patrick was appointed assistant assembly chief clerk; and
Whereas, in 2001 Patrick graduated with honors earning a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Toledo University; and
Whereas, in 2003 Patrick was elected assembly chief clerk; and
Whereas, Patrick is married to a wonderful woman, Cheryl Fuller, who has endured all of those years that he was gone while on active duty and who is a Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville; and
Whereas, Patrick's son, Specialist Sam Fuller, an infantry paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division, is currently serving in Fallujah, Iraq; and
Whereas, Patrick also has a warm and fuzzy friend named Zeus, who is Sam's Siberian Husky dog; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, That the members of the Wisconsin assembly commend the devoted service of Patrick to his country, the state of Wisconsin, and the Wisconsin assembly; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this resolution to Patrick Fuller.
