2003 Senate Joint Resolution 35
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of William R. Moser.
Whereas, William R. Moser was born on October 14, 1927, in Chicago and died on April 11, 2003, in Milwaukee; and
Whereas, he graduated from St. John Cathedral High School, St. Norbert College, and Marquette Law School; and
Whereas, after establishing himself in private practice as an attorney, he married Mary Bernadette Reding; and
Whereas, he began a long career of public service by joining the U.S. Army in 1945, serving 2 years as a paratrooper and a criminal investigator; and
Whereas, William R. Moser was elected to the Wisconsin senate in 1956, quickly earning a reputation as a passionate statesman and an enemy of posturing and hypocrisy; and
Whereas, he became one of the youngest floor leaders in the history of the Wisconsin legislature when in 1961, at the age of 33, he was elected senate minority leader; and
Whereas, in that role he led the fight against the adoption of the sales tax in Wisconsin; and
Whereas, after leaving the senate in 1962, William Moser went on to a long career of further service to the people of Milwaukee County as a county court judge, as a circuit court judge, and finally as a judge of the District I Court of Appeals; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature salute the life and public service of William R. Moser and mourn the passing of this distinguished former colleague; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to William R. Moser's wife, Mary Bernadette, his son, William, and his daughter, Mary Magdalene Carlson.
