2003 Senate Joint Resolution 71
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and service of Wisconsin Army National Guard Specialist Michelle Witmer.
Whereas, Specialist Michelle Witmer, daughter of John and Lori Witmer, sister of Rachel, Timothy, Charity, and Mark, was born on February 13, 1984, and died on April 9, 2004, in Baghdad, Iraq, defending herself and fellow soldiers from ambush; and
Whereas, Specialist Witmer served with distinction and honor with the Wisconsin National Guard 32nd Military Police Company of Milwaukee and Madison; and
Whereas, Specialist Witmer was home-schooled and graduated in 2002; and
Whereas, while serving in Iraq, Specialist Witmer volunteered at an Iraqi orphanage for disabled children, had a keen interest in government, drama, music, and animals, and devoted a great deal of passion and time to these interests; and
Whereas, Specialist Witmer made the ultimate sacrifice for her country while advancing the cause of freedom for the Iraqi people; and
Whereas, Specialist Witmer was awarded 2 medals of distinction, the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star; and
Whereas, Specialist Witmer will always be remembered for her bravery and courage; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the life of Wisconsin Army National Guard Specialist Michelle Witmer, express their sorrow at the loss of her life, and extend their condolences to her family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Specialist Witmer's parents, John and Lori Witmer; her sisters, Rachel and Charity; and her brothers, Timothy and Mark.
