2005 Assembly Joint Resolution 14
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the military service of Pvt. 1st Class James Anagnostopoulos.
Whereas, James Anagnostopoulos began his military service by enlisting in the Wisconsin Army National Guard in 1964, and later went on to active duty with the 326th Medical Battalion of the 101st Airborne Division; and
Whereas, once in Vietnam, Pvt. 1st Class James Anagnostopoulos volunteered with the 173rd Airborne Brigade as a combat medic; and
Whereas, while on a mission on February 27, 1968, Pvt. Anagnostopoulos and Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry came under fire from the North Vietnamese Army; and
Whereas, under heavy fire, Pvt. Anagnostopoulos ran across 150 meters of open terrain to treat the wounded, pulled an injured platoon leader to cover, and then moved forward to treat 3 casualties within 10 meters of an enemy machine gun; and
Whereas, while treating the 3 casualties, Pvt. Anagnostopoulos personally eliminated the enemy gunner and then moved on to treat 2 new casualties; and
Whereas, Pvt. Anagnostopoulos secured a helicopter evacuation of the 6 wounded he treated after personally carrying 3 of them through enemy fire; and
Whereas, when fighting broke out a 2nd time, Pvt. Anagnostopoulos rushed across 100 meters of open ground and aided in the rescue of 5 more paratroopers; and
Whereas, in recognition of his heroic acts, SP5 James Anagnostopoulos was awarded the military's 2nd highest award for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross, and was also awarded an Army Commendation Medal with "V" device, Combat Medical Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Medal, and several other campaign medals during his tour in Vietnam; and
Whereas, James Anagnostopoulos now resides in Westfield, Wisconsin, with his wife Jeanine, enjoys fishing and spending time with his grandchildren, and is a Life Member of the Neenah Valley VFW Post 6003; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature honor James Anagnostopoulos for his service to his country and for his heroic acts on February 27, 1968; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to James Anagnostopoulos and his wife, Jeanine.
