ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Vincent R. Mathews.
Whereas, Vincent R. Mathews was born on June 8, 1912, in Watertown, Wisconsin, and died on April 7, 2005, in Madison; and
Whereas, Mr. Mathews was educated in the Fort Atkinson public schools; and
Whereas, he earned a bachelor of science degree in business from Carroll College in 1934; and
Whereas, Mr. Mathews operated an insurance agency in Waukesha for many years, and was a public-spirited citizen who served as a Waukesha alderperson from 1946 to 1950; and
Whereas, Mr. Mathews was first elected to the Wisconsin assembly in 1958, serving in the 1959 to 1969 sessions; and
Whereas, during his tenure in the legislature, Mr. Mathews was a member of the Elections Committee, which he chaired during the 1965 session, the Reorganization Committee, the Joint Survey Committee on Retirement Systems, and the Retirement Research Council, and was chairperson of the Legislative Council Elections Committee from 1965 to 1967; and
Whereas, during the 1960s, Mr. Mathews' interest in the railroad industry led him to join the Mid-Continent Railway Historical Society (formerly known as the Railroad Historical Society of Milwaukee); and
Whereas, after he retired from the assembly, Mr. Mathews was an active volunteer with the Mid-Continent Railway Historical Society and loved to take friends and family to see the trains; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Vincent R. Mathews contributed to this state and his community, express their sorrow at his death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Mr. Mathews' wife, Margaret; daughter, Barbara Miller; son, Steven Mathews; and brother, Fred Mathews.
