2005 Senate Joint Resolution 38
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and military service of Specialist Charles A. Kaufman.
Whereas, Specialist Charles A. Kaufman, of Fairchild, Wisconsin, was born on October 19, 1984, and died on June 26, 2005, after an improvised explosive device detonated while he was returning from a mission in Baghdad, Iraq; and
Whereas, Spc. Kaufman served with honor and distinction as a member of Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 128th Infantry, part of the "Red Arrow" Brigade, stationed in Samarra, Iraq, as a part of Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
Whereas, he graduated from Chippewa Valley Technical College in Neillsville, Wisconsin; and
Whereas, he valued time with his family — his parents Mark and Celeste, his sister Samantha, his grandparents, and his cousin Kelly, whom he followed into the Wisconsin National Guard; and
Whereas, Spc. Kaufman was devoted to protecting his country, evidenced by his steadfast determination to serve in the Iraqi War, even after he fell 15 feet from a tree and broke several ribs, punctured his lung, and lost his spleen; and
Whereas, Spc. Kaufman believed in the worthy cause of bringing freedom to the Iraqi people, but most importantly to the children of Iraq, whose smiles and cheers inspired him to do his job well; and
Whereas, he was passionate about driving, from his first time behind the wheel of a riding mower at the age of 7, to countless rides driving trucks, tractors, boats, ATVs, and motorcycles, to carrying out his mission driving the Humvee in which he lost his life; and
Whereas, he had a competitive spirit, whether shooting pool or participating in archery contests at the Fairchild Rod-N-Gun, where he won several archery trophies through the years; and
Whereas, Spc. Kaufman will always be remembered for his patriotism, his love for his family and friends, and his trademark grin that showed his unbridled kindness and generosity towards others; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature, on behalf of a grateful state, honor Specialist Charles A. Kaufman for his noble service to our country and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint resolution to Specialist Kaufman's parents, Mark and Celeste Kaufman, to his sister, Samantha Kaufman, to his grandparents, Geraldine Kaufman and Harold and Christina Frazee, to his great grandmother, Doloris DeMoss, and to his cousin, Kelly Kaufman.
