2005 Senate Resolution 6
ENGROSSED RESOLUTION
Relating to: recognizing and supporting national Minority Cancer Awareness Week.
Whereas, the American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem through prevention measures, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service; and
Whereas, national Minority Cancer Awareness Week provides an opportunity to inform the minority community about the dangers of cancer and ways to prevent it; and
Whereas, this year alone, approximately 1.37 million new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States and 26,340 in Wisconsin alone; and
Whereas, African-Americans have the highest death rate for cancer of any racial or ethnic group and cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death for Hispanic adults; and
Whereas, the American Cancer Society offers help for all people facing cancer and strives to eliminate the unequal cancer burden that falls on minority and low-income communities; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, That April 17-23, 2005, is proclaimed Minority Cancer Awareness Week in Wisconsin.
