2007 Assembly Joint Resolution 76
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Jim Ryan.
Whereas, Jim Ryan served as the Hales Corners Village President from 1988 to 2007; and
Whereas, in addition to serving as village president, Jim served the community on the Milwaukee County Board from 1980 to 1983 and as a Hales Corners village trustee from 1976 to 1980; and
Whereas, Jim graduated from Marquette University in 1965 with a degree in philosophy and sociology, received a master's degree from Loyola University in social work in 1967, and received a certificate from the Government Executive Program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University; and
Whereas, Jim was active in the Hales Corners community in many other capacities, including service with the American Red Cross, the Whitnall Park Rotary, and the Boerner Botanical Gardens Board of Directors; and
Whereas, Jim's work extended beyond the bounds of his hometown through his involvement in the Birth to 3 Program, his help founding the Wisconsin Alliance for Infant Mental Health, and his help creating the School Readiness Philanthropy Group; and
Whereas, Jim served as president and CEO of both the Penfield Children's Center and the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center, Inc.; and
Whereas, Jim was honored and admired by those with whom he worked; and
Whereas, Jim's greatest contribution was as a devoted and loving husband and father; and
Whereas, Jim's accomplishments will be recognized by future generations, as the Village of Hales Corners Hall has been renamed and rededicated the James R. Ryan Municipal Building; and
Whereas, Jim passed away on November 6, 2007, following a fruitful lifetime of service to his home and community; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the many accomplishments that Jim Ryan contributed to this state and to his community, express their sorrow at his death, and extend their heartfelt condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Jim's wife, Lisa, and his four children, Jimmy, John, Kristen, and Cathryn.
