ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: commending Jolene Anderson, member of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Badger women's basketball team, for her athletic achievements.
Whereas, Jolene Anderson was born on July 22, 1986; grew up in Port Wing, Wisconsin; and attended South Shore High School, where she was a three-sport athlete in basketball, track, and volleyball, and in basketball was named the state of Wisconsin's all-time leading scorer as a senior and led her team to the WIAA State Division 4 final; and
Whereas, as a high school junior, Jolene Anderson was recruited by many top colleges, but she committed to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to further her basketball and academic career, over final considerations for Minnesota and Marquette; and
Whereas, in her rookie year, Jolene Anderson was named University of Wisconsin-Madison's leading scorer, was a leader in rebounds and assists, was named 2005 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, was the third-highest scoring freshman in the nation, and won a gold medal as a member of the USA U19 team; and
Whereas, in 2006, Jolene Anderson returned in her sophomore season to be named second team All-Big Ten by Big-Ten coaches and the media, became the University of Wisconsin's first player, male or female, to score 1,000 points by her 57th career game, led the University of Wisconsin-Madison in rebounding, and earned a second USA team gold with the USA U20 team; and
Whereas, now in her junior year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Jolene Anderson has been named first team All-Big Ten by Big Ten coaches and media panels, she continues to lead the Badgers in scoring and rebounding, and she is only the ninth player in the history of the University of Wisconsin program to be named to the Big Ten's first team; and
Whereas, Jolene Anderson is a great asset to the University of Wisconsin-Madison women's basketball team and a promising contributor to another season in the future of University of Wisconsin basketball; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature salute Jolene Anderson for her many achievements in the game of basketball.
