2007 Senate Joint Resolution 79
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and military service of Corporal Matthew Ross Zindars.
Whereas, Corporal Matthew Zindars, of Watertown, Wisconsin, was born on September 12, 1985, and died on July 24, 2007, following injuries resulting from a roadside bomb explosion while on patrol with his unit in the Diyala Province, Iraq; and
Whereas, Cpl. Zindars served with honor and distinction in the 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force stationed in Iraq as a part of Operation Iraqi Freedom and his second tour of duty; and
Whereas, Cpl. Zindars attended Trinity-St. Luke's Grade School and graduated from Watertown High School in 2004, where he was an exemplary student, friend to many, and known for his kindness and sense of humor; and
Whereas, while still in high school, Cpl. Zindars fulfilled a childhood dream and enlisted with the Marine Corps reflecting his desire to achieve the highest physical and mental goals for himself, and to dedicate himself to serving his country with honor, compassion, and skill; and
Whereas, Cpl. Zindars always sought out the most demanding tasks, including working with artillery, and as a marine, he exhibited selflessness and patriotism and requested a second tour of duty following his first in 2006 because he believed his fellow marines and his country needed him; and
Whereas, his life was well-lived and filled with activities like snowboarding, skiing, jet skiing, rock climbing, and other games, and he spent time with friends who considered him to be the best of the best and family who considered him a model son; and
Whereas, Matthew believed in the just cause of bringing liberty to the people of Iraq, through his enduring spirit in the hope that they would one day be able to embrace the freedom of the life that he so cherished; and
Whereas, he will forever be remembered as a true hero by those who knew him and for his patriotism, determination, selflessness, and his love for family and friends; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature, on behalf of a grateful state, honor Corporal Matthew Ross Zindars for his noble service to our country and extend condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Corporal Zindars' mother, Lynn Zindars, to his father, Kenneth Zindars, to his sisters, Tracy Kempf-Reichardt and Jennifer Kempf-Wilson, and to his brother, Mark Zindars.
