ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Robert D. Haase.
Whereas, Robert D. Haase was born on May 10, 1923, in Marinette, Wisconsin, and died on September 30, 2009, in Mount Rainier, Maryland; and
Whereas, Robert D. Haase earned an L.L.B. degree from UW‐Madison in 1951; and
Whereas, Mr. Haase served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946; and
Whereas, Mr. Haase had a love for American Legion baseball and served as Wisconsin American Legion baseball commissioner for many years; and
Whereas, Mr. Haase started the Marinette American Legion baseball team in 1951 and coached the team for over 30 years; and
Whereas, Mr. Haase was first elected to the Wisconsin assembly in 1956, serving in the 1957 to 1965 sessions; and
Whereas, during his tenure in the legislature, Mr. Haase was the republican caucus chair during the 1959 session, the republican floor leader during the 1961 session, the speaker of the assembly during the 1963 session, and the minority leader during the 1965 session; and
Whereas, on September 15, 1965, Robert D. Haase resigned from the legislature to become the commissioner of insurance and served in that position until 1969 and again from 1987 to 1992; and
Whereas, his commitment to education included service as adjunct professor at UW‐Madison both in the law school and school of business and several terms on the Marinette school board; now, therefore be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Robert D. Haase contributed to this state and his community, express their sorrow at his death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Robert D. Haase's brother, William Haase and his sister‐in‐law, Jean Haase of Punta Gorda, Florida.
