2009 Assembly Joint Resolution 19
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Carroll E. Metzner.
Whereas, Carroll E. Metzner was born on April 24, 1919, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and died on December 6, 2008, in Madison, Wisconsin; and
Whereas, Mr. Metzner earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Northwestern University in 1941 and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Wisconsin‐Madison in 1943; and
Whereas, Mr. Metzner began his political career on the Madison city council where he served from 1951 to 1956; and
Whereas, Mr. Metzner was first elected to the Wisconsin assembly in 1954, representing Dane 3, serving in the 1955 and 1957 sessions; and
Whereas, during his tenure in the legislature, the legislature passed the “Metzner bill," which restricted the height of buildings along the Madison lakeshores; and
Whereas, after his service in the legislature, Mr. Metzner was an active and thoughtful member of the Republican Party and ably served as a county and district chairman; and
Whereas, he cared deeply about Madison and introduced the city to numerous visiting students from around the world; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Carroll E. Metzner contributed to this state and his community, express their sorrow at his death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Mr. Metzner's wife of over 64 years, Marjorie.
