ENGROSSED RESOLUTION
Relating to: commending Jerel McNeal on his remarkable athletic career.
Whereas, Jerel McNeal has been named a third team All-American by Parade Magazine and the top senior by Illinois Prep Bullseye, and named to First Team All-State by the Associated Press while at Hillcrest High School in Chicago, Illinois; and
Whereas, McNeal was named to the Big East All-Rookie Team his freshman year while leading the team with 64 steals and breaking the previous record held by Doc Rivers, and named Big East Rookie of the Week in November 2005 and part of the Great Alaska Shootout All-Tournament selection; and
Whereas, McNeal's stellar performance in the 2006-2007 season earned him All-Big East Second Team, Big East Defensive Player of the Year, Rivals.com All-Defensive First Team, and a position on the Big East Honor Roll twice, all while recording 76 assists in a single season, fifth most in a single season history; and
Whereas, McNeal was named to All-Big East Second Team for the second year in a row while winning Marquette's Deflection King Award and Most Valuable Player Award; and
Whereas, McNeal was ranked 30th in the nation in steals per game and finished among the Big East Conference leaders in scoring, assists, and steals and was named to the All-Tournament Team during the Big East Tournament; and
Whereas, McNeal was named Big East Conference Player of the Week in December 2008; and
Whereas, McNeal is a current All-American and Big East Player of the Year candidate, and by scoring 23 points in his 199th game against Big East Rival Villanova on February 10, 2009, became the leading scorer in Marquette men's basketball history with 1,776 points, breaking George Thompson's 40-year-old scoring mark; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, That the Wisconsin senate commends Jerel McNeal on his remarkable athletic career.
