2011 Assembly Joint Resolution 14
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Axel Albert Johnson.
Whereas, Axel Albert Johnson was born in Chicago, Illinois, on December 9, 1925, and died on June 12, 2010; and
Whereas, Axel Albert Johnson married Ingert Maria Forsberg in 1960; and
Whereas, Axel Albert Johnson was a loving husband, father, and grandfather; and
Whereas, Axel Albert Johnson received a degree in criminology and philosophy from Marquette University; and
Whereas, Axel Albert Johnson served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Army, volunteered for paratrooper training, and served with the 101st Airborne during the second World War in the European Theater; and
Whereas, Axel Albert Johnson loved Door County and served there in civic roles, including as a member of the Door County Civil Service Commission, Gibraltar County School Board, and Sister Bay Village Board and its planning committee; and
Whereas, Axel Albert Johnson was a small business owner who provided jobs to hundreds of young people in order for them to earn money to go to college and beyond; and
Whereas, Axel Albert Johnson's Swedish themed restaurant, Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant, featuring a sod roof with grazing goats, serves as an icon for Door County and the entire state of Wisconsin; and
Whereas, Axel Albert Johnson's establishment has not only put Door County on the map as a tourist destination but has done the same for the state of Wisconsin; and
Whereas, Axel Albert Johnson was an exemplary citizen, serving his community, and his country in a time of need, and making the world a better place; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the Wisconsin legislature commends the life and public service of Axel Albert Johnson, expresses sorrow at his death, and extends its condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Mr. Johnson's wife and children.
