2011 Senate Joint Resolution 53
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and military service of United States Army Pfc. Jacob A. Gassen (Jake).
Whereas, Jacob was born on November 19, 1989, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to Gregory and Barbara Gassen, and died on November 29, 2010, of injuries sustained when an insurgent attacked his unit with small arms fire in Nangarhar province, Afghanistan; and
Whereas, Jacob was a 2008 graduate of Beaver Dam High School in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and enlisted in the United States Army in 2009; and
Whereas, Jacob served with distinction in the United States Army 1st Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; and
Whereas, Jacob's family and fellow citizens are very proud of him and know that he died doing what he wanted to do: serve the nation and fight for freedom; and
Whereas, Jacob embodied the Army's core values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal service and he will be sorely missed; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature of the state of Wisconsin commemorates the remarkable life of Jacob A. Gassen and extends its deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues; and, be it further
Resolved, That that the senate chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint resolution to Jacob's parents, Gregory and Barbara Gassen, and Jacob's brothers, Christopher and Jesse Gassen.
