2013 Assembly Joint Resolution 29
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and public service of Judge William J. Duffy.
Whereas, William J. Duffy was born on October 29, 1916, in North Branch, Minnesota, and died on February 25, 2012, at his home in Green Bay, Wisconsin, at the age of 96; and
Whereas, William J. Duffy grew up in Hollandtown, Wisconsin, and graduated from Kaukauna High School and St. Norbert College, followed by law school at the University of Wisconsin, graduating in 1941; and
Whereas, upon graduation from law school William J. Duffy enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving as a captain in the South Pacific during World War II; and
Whereas, while working at his law practice in Green Bay, William J. Duffy took an interest in politics, helping to re-establish the Democratic Party in Wisconsin; and
Whereas, in 1948 William J. Duffy was elected to the state assembly from Brown County's Second District, serving one term in the body; and
Whereas, after serving in the assembly, William J. Duffy returned to his law practice until he was elected to the bench as a Brown County circuit court judge, where he served proudly until 1992; and
Whereas, throughout his life, William J. Duffy worked tirelessly to serve, support, and promote the Green Bay community; and
Whereas, William J. Duffy was the loving husband of Elizabeth "Betty" Duffy; the beloved father of five children, Mary, Michael, Sally, Trish, and John; and grandfather to ten grandchildren, Timothy, Patrick, William (Julie), John, Abby, Duffy (Sammie), Charlie, Henry, Margaret, and Liam; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend the life and public service of Judge William J. Duffy, mourn his passing, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to William J. Duffy's children, Mary, Michael, Sally, Trish, and John.
