2015 Senate Joint Resolution 67
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: proclaiming November 2015 as Adoption Month in Wisconsin.
Whereas, November is National Adoption Month, and this year's theme, "We Never Outgrow the Need for Family," highlights older youth waiting for adoption; and
Whereas, in 2014 there were 1,214 children in out-of-home care as preadoptive cases in Wisconsin, and there are currently around 350 kids in foster care who need to find their forever family; and
Whereas, about 700 children are adopted each year from the Special Needs Adoption Program; and
Whereas, more children become available for adoption each year than are adopted; and
Whereas, a forever family provides lifelong benefits for children and parents alike; and
Whereas, nearly 40 percent of American adults have considered adopting a child, according to the National Adoption Attitudes Survey; and
Whereas, if just one in 500 of these adults adopted, every waiting child in foster care would have a forever family, and
Whereas, Adoption Month is a time when we can encourage our neighbors and friends to consider opening their hearts to children in need; and
Whereas, every child in foster care deserves the chance to have the warmth and stability of a permanent home and nurturing family; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature hereby proclaims November 2015 as Adoption Month in Wisconsin.
